“Do you ever feel like you’re just on the brink of something amazing, something extraordinary? And it’s on the tip of your tongue or the middle of your brain, but you can’t quite think of it. You don’t know what it is, but you know it’s spectacular, whatever it is. Yet, you never do think of it; you just know there's something missing?”
-Isla to Barrett

Isla, as she sees herself and Ellysea in her dreams
About The Light Warrior
The Light Warrior is the first novel in a projected fantasy fiction series.

Isla Ackerman’s people believe that Ellysea’s magic, along with the Suns, Moon and Stars were taken to the eternal paradise, Ellaryne. If they live a life of servitude, they have a chance of reaching Ellaryne upon death. Isla, however, has a light quivering inside of her chest and can’t help but feel there must be more to life than the promise of paradise after death. As her faith unravels, she discovers the answer to the age-old question—why are we here?—and realizes that everything she has been taught is wrong.
Isla is a gale—a low-class, unmarried woman. As a gale, she is forced to shave her head, wear a chain around her neck and take an arrangement with a Dominor. Isla is underfed and overworked, and her only escape is fantasizing about going beyond the mountains that surround Roedon. More than anything, she wants to see if the rest of Ellysea is a paradise, like the place she visits in her dreams. There's just one problem—gales are forbidden from leaving.
Isla begins feeling a pulse, like the heartbeat of Ellysea itself, but it is wrong and out of sync. She also keeps seeing the same symbol hidden throughout Roedon. As Isla works to discover their meanings, she realizes that Lord Griffin—a man she once despised—is a dreamer, like her. He, too, wonders why the bluebirds are grey and is convinced that Ellysea is not supposed to be the wasteland that it is.

Just as Isla is given the opportunity to leave her life as a gale, her Dominor uses her as bait to save his farm. Afraid, Isla flees to the Lumen, where she has a chance of finally escaping her life as a gale, but it is at the cost of losing everyone she cares about.

In a world with no love, where dreaming is unheard of, Isla finds herself facing the impossible decision to follow love or follow her dreams. She does not know she can have it all if she just learns to use her light.
The Light Warrior (124,000 words) is an epic fantasy romance. It is a discovery of magic, rags to riches, enemies to lovers story with a slow-burn romance.
